Friday was move in day. A lot of people were stressed/hassled but I felt really chill, & I surprisingly got unpacked and moved in really quickly. My Biola life started out at 8:02, when I arrived on campus. There was surprisingly a lot of parking spots, and I was really thankful because there was nearly no line for check in. After I checked in to my dorm, Sigma, I realized that I had unintentionally cut in front of a bunch of people in line. So I am really sorry to any of those people… I hope I didn’t ruin the beginning of anyones day, since I know how much it annoys me if people cut in front of me in line.
I got my key and went up to my room, but one of my roommates Mikayla was still sleeping. I hadn’t brought any of my things up with me, so I used this time to move my car to a better stop for bring things into my room. Like I mentioned up ^ there somewhere, I’m in Sigma, which is a dorm with no elevator. And the dorm is L shaped, with the long hall and the short hall. I’m on the third floor, and the very last room in the long hall… But by God’s grace, the emergency door at the end of our hall was left open for people to move in, so I was able to park near the emergency stairs and move in through there.
Moving in was a breeze.. I didn’t bring too much stuff so the thing that took the longest was my bedding. I think all I need now is a power strip and a new desk chair..
That afternoon, I went to the Math & CompSci department meeting. I was hesitant about going, but at the last minute I changed my mind and went with my mom. It was absolutely wonderful. The professors are so kind and funny, and everyone was so welcoming and great. One of the computer science professors has a son who has the EXACT job I aspire to do… so that is FANTASTIC!! It really solidified my decision to be a math/compsci double major, and I’m glad I went because it made me drop my more superfluous ambitions… such as triple majoring with English.
Friday night was University Welcome and University Dinner. It was great because both of my parents came. It was my dad’s first time on campus, and he thought it was really cool. He was my room, and then all three of us went to the Welcome. I’ll talk more about the Welcome when I’m on Day 2 (: Welcome Dinner was SO FUN. It was Mexican food, but the best part was that I ate with a mathematics professor, so he was giving me TONS of advice. It’s definitely better because I already know a lot of my future plans, so I can get mostly specific advice about what I should do.
Afterward I just mostly stayed in my room. I didn’t really go out at all Friday.
